About the Conference, Wednesday September 16, 09:00-12:30

Keynote speaker Sebastian Mernild will focus on the impact of global warming on tourism in the three North Atlantic destinations.

Sebastian H. Mernild graduated with an M.Sc. in 2001 and was awarded a Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Copenhagen, Institute of Geography (now Department of Geography & Geology). In 2002 he was awarded the University of Copenhagen’s silver medal for a prize paper.

He is currently employed as a climate and polar researcher (Post Doc.) in the USA at the University of Alaska Fairbanks – the leading global university specialising in arctic research. In this position, he is working on climate change in Greenland (including the Ice Sheet), Canada, Alaska and Siberia and on terrestrial cryospheric (glacier ice, snow and permafrost) and hydrological processes and conditions. In addition, he works with remote sensing and 'state of the art' modelling tools used in the field of glacier, snow and hydrological modelling to describe conditions in the past, present and future.

He has on numerous occasions been a guest researcher at Colorado State University and the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA, at Hokkido University, Japan, as well as participating in courses at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), Norway.

He has disseminated his interests and knowledge on climate change and its effect on cryospheric and hydrological conditions in the circumpolar region in peer-reviewed international scientific periodicals, in conference lectures and lectures for the wider public, as well as in popular media such as newspapers and radio.

Sebastian Mernild is also a qualified Captain of the Reserves in the Danish armed forces and has served in both Kosovo (2002) and Afghanistan (2006).


Keynote speaker Jill Hellman - Chief Innovator 

Ms. Hellman has over 15 years of experience in strategy, training, and innovation. She spent the first 10 years of her career inside Fortune 500 companies ultimately serving as Director of Strategy for AutoNation, Inc., a $19 billion company. In that role, Jill was responsible for implementing strategic initiatives across the enterprise. In addition to creating the General Manager training program and implementing operational standards for over 300 locations, she led the integration of more than $1billion in acquisitions.

Jill also serves as a consultant and speaker and has traveled around the world to address audiences for companies like Microsoft and regional entities such as the Nordic Innovation Centre. She is also assisting Cornell University’s School for Hotel Administration by creating the Innovation Network for the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship. This network brings together top-level executives in hospitality several times a year to further the industry through innovation.

She is active in the community, having served on the boards of nonprofits such as Gilda’s Club, an organization named after Gilda Radner for families touched by cancer. Jill received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University. She received her M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.


Please note that the venue has a maximum capacity of 200 persons. We will register on a first come, first serve basis. The conference is open to buyers as well as exhibitors and includes lunch on the first day of Vestnorden Travel Mart. Planetariet is situated right next to Scandic Hotel Copenhagen.

Until May 2004, Marketenderiet was a canteen. Today, it is a trendy and unique venue for all kinds of arrangements – receptions, conferences, gala dinners, concerts, product launches, and theme dinners. Marketenderiet is situated at approx. 15 minutes drive from the city center.
